Try RIAS they take a few days to send out the quote but they were very reasonable. Well worth the wait.

Whatever you do, don't go to Barclays. I won't bore you with the whole story but it was a big mistake.

I've used online quotes for motor insurance and taken out policies on the strength of them. I've obtained quotes for home and contents insurance but have found the discount for placing the insurance with the same provider as my car usually outweighs the savings online.
I've probably tried them all at sometime but find the comparison sites such as http://www.moneysupermarket.com best for narrowing it down - you only have to put your details in once to get multiple quotes - then go direct to the providers own website to confirm rates and cover.
